Mid New Year’s Work Out Resolution Check-Up
By sporty gee kay | June 8, 2007
I got to thinking this week…its June…have I met all of those New Year’s Resolutions I made for myself? My main resolution was to work out regularly. I started off really strong…but is it where you start or is it where you finish? I am pleased with my results, but I think I could have stayed a few minutes longer at the gym or run a little bit farther at the track.
I decided to ask a couple of my peers to see what they had to say about their fitness resolution. First call, my bff…she stated that she has lost 10 pounds so far this year and was truly excited. But when it came time for me to ask about her work out routine, in came the “…well, on some Mondays I go at 7ish…then if I have time after work during the rest of the week, I try to fit it in.”
Next call, a buddy from college. He stated that he runs 5 miles a day and “hits” the gym at least 4 days a week. To add insult to injury, he sent a picture to my phone of his newly sculpted bod…I was impressed to say the least.
We need to make sure that all of us –especially those of us in our late twenties and early thirties– are aware of the ever slowing metabolism and the fact that our country is know for our obesity. More often than not, we tend to fall off of our work out plans…some harder than others. The one thing I have learned about sticking to a fitness plan is to keep a fitness log. I bought a small spiral notebook and I keep it in my glove compartment, that way, I can’t get to the gym or the track and say that I forgot it.
A fitness log is just some simple notes that you jot down after or during your workout. If you are doing cardio, jot down the length of time and the intensity. If you are doing weight training, jot down the weight and the number of repetitions of each exercise. In keeping track of your workout, you will begin to see progress and hopefully find it easier to stick with your routine.

I think that’s great idea. I always see the more seasoned people in the gym with their notebooks. I just assumed they were football players with a specialized routine.
